Electric Infrared Heaters
Electric infrared heaters work in a very similar fashion to the sun. In fact the sun can be considered a type of infrared heater and is the basic inspiration to the concept behind modern infrared heaters. Modern infrared heaters are extremely efficient and utilize a proportionately low amount of energy when compared to standard space heaters.
The problem with space heaters is they are designed to do exactly what the name implies; they are designed to heat up a space. Of course what they are really doing is heating up the air in a space. This is inefficient since it heats up the entire air in the space and not just the things that you desire to heat up such as yourself and the members of your family.
By design infrared heaters provide a greater amount of heat than a standard space heater. Infrared heaters do this in a manner that is also more comfortable to you and your family. When a space heater heats up a room the space in the room typically becomes very stuffy because the air is not heated up and stagnant. An infrared heater does not heat up the air and therefore keeps it from becoming stagnant and keeps you more comfortable.
By heating you up and not the entire room infrared heaters are more efficient. Naturally it requires less heat to heat you up then it does the entire space within a room therefore it is less difficult to heat you up than the entire room and it uses less energy. In this case the energy used is electricity. With less electricity being used your electric bill is reduced.
There are many different styles of infrared heaters. There are some infrared heaters that are intended for hanging from the ceiling. These heaters conveniently hang overhead and provide heat to the people that are within the area of the heater. This allows for a direct and intense heat. Larger hanging infrared heaters can be hung as much as 14 feet away and still provide efficient heat.
One type of hanging infrared heater that is popular is the patio infrared heater. This type of heater is hung to a metal pole that is set on its own base and can be placed outdoors on a patio or deck and provides heat from a safe height. By having the heater hung at relatively high heights it is safely out of the reach of individuals that might risk getting burned from the element.
