Electric Baseboard Heaters

Electric baseboard heaters have been used for many years to provide heat generated from an electrical source to a room in order to keep the room at a desired temperature during coolers weather. These heaters have been installed in homes for many years and provide a relatively safe way to heat a home without the use of gasoline or oil. Baseboard heaters do not emit an odor that is often associated with other methods of heat. They also tend to be safer than other heating methods.

Electric baseboard heat is generated by heating coils inside the heater. These coils are connected to an electrical supply source. When the source is turned on the coils are warmed up. The coils use the natural laws of physics to heat a space. Hot air naturally rises and a baseboard heater utilizes this principle to heat a room. As the coils heat they heat the air and the hot air naturally rises out of the heater and fills the space around the heater with warmed air which causes the temperature of the room to increase.

The baseboard heater utilizes a temperature controlled device. It is this device that monitors the temperature of the room. When the room reaches the proper temperature the heater is automatically turned off. Of course the air in the room will not stay at the temperature it is heated up to when the heated is not running consequently the air temperature will decrease again.

When the temperature control device acknowledges that the air temperature is less than the setting on the control device it causes the heater to rewarm the coils which in turn start the process over again. This causes the heater to start rewarming the air until the sensor once again detects that the room has reached the desired temperature.

This type of heating system is efficient and safer than some other methods since the temperature control device keeps the heater from running all the time. This reduces the amount of electricity utilized to heat the room.

Older units may not contain automatic temperature control devices and therefore they will need to be monitored so they can be turned off when the room reaches the desired temperature. If these devices are not monitored then the room will heat up continuously until the unit is manually shut-off. This can be dangerous and may be prone to causing a fire hazard.

Due to the cost of manufacturing the parts of a baseboard heater these devices are easier to replace than to repair when they break down. Baseboard heaters are also independent and do not work in accordance with the other units, meaning that if a unit in one room breaks down the other units in the home do not need to be replaced. This can be a great money saver over systems that need to be totally replaced when they break down.
